I would like to believe that if you earn your living working as a freelance writer, then you definitely have some goals set. Why do I say so?
Goals are particularly important for your success as a freelance writer because they define what you really set out to achieve and how you plan to do it.
They act as a source of motivation and inspiration in guiding your efforts towards achieving what you set to accomplish. Goals define the end you strive to attain.
Absence of goals certainly means that. You’re not sure what you want to accomplish. Or how do do it.
It is for this reason that you really need to give yourself sometime off from your day-to-day activities. And set objectives for your freelance writing career. Especially if you have not done that.
For those who have, constantly appraise your efforts. And make sure that you are in the right direction towards achieving these objectives.
As a freelancer myself writing for my blog, I have come across a variety of goals set by many freelance writers. But most of them always revolve around…
1. Independence and guaranteed freedom. Most individuals desire to work in an environment that encourages freedom. With no authoritative bosses like in formal employment. Where you are personally liable for all your mistakes. Such an opportunity is definitely guaranteed with freelance writing. And quite viable for individuals who have a lot of things to do. You can write during your part time and do other jobs, or vice versa. However, for this to be possible — you will require a lot of discipline and hard work.
2. Opportunity for a good pay. Usually the biggest incentive for many freelance writers. Because of the unlimited opportunity offered by freelance writing with rising demand for fresh content. If you manage time properly, then you can get as many clients as possible. And still meet their expectations. However, it’s important to note that — getting the high paying jobs and making good money from writing is not easy process. It requires a lot of understanding and experience. So, make sure to build that.
3. Choose an enjoyable career. Freelance writing is an opportunity for you to do something interesting and enjoyable. Not always directly, but one way or the other — works out for the best. A perfect example would be where, you’re not very fond of writing. But turn out to be a good writer. Because you get to write about something you like. It may also open new doors for you, such as blogging.
Remember that……..
In everything you do, know why you are doing it. And be motivated to do it to your very best!
So, have you defined your goals as a freelance writer? If not, what are you waiting for?
