The last thing you want to do, as a freelance writer is to get your client confused. Not only does it make your work difficult, but also leaves your client frustrated once the project is done.

Dealing with an angry client who blames you for the confusion can be a rather unpleasant experience. So, to avoid getting yourself into such a situation — make sure that you’re both on the same page even before the project begins.

Here are three reliable freelance writing tips to help you achieve exactly that:

1. Avoid unnecessary language

If you’re in the habit of using obscure terms to impress your clients during conversations, then you need stop. This is because it only works on the few clients who truly understand what these words mean. But, what about the majority who don’t? For that reason, it’s always advisable to play it safe and use words that your everyday client understands. If you really have to use some these technical industrial terms, make sure to simplify them further for the client. With time, they will be able to pick up on some of these terms and might even shock you with words you’ve never heard of.

2. Understand the project first before you start writing

This will help to provide more understanding as to what your client really expects from you once the project is complete. You can also have some issues clarified by requesting the client to do so.
