10 Social Media tips for Business

Businesses can generate buzz, revenue, and even extreme brand loyalty through the use of social media. Utilize this opportunity to the fullest, and follow these 10 tips every business needs to know.

1. Facebook Fan Page – This simple to use, and even easier to set up application in Facebook is the best way to market your brand and your business.

2.  Twitter – Your company should be tweeting, and yes, on company time. Make sure all of the important players in your company are posting daily and sharing information with the community.

3. YouTube – Video and multimedia is an exceptional way to share information, facts, resources, and more with your consumers.

4. LinkedIn – LinkedIn has often been considered the most professional social networking site of “the Big Three” (Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn). If your company works with individuals for professional services, this is a great way to connect in a more business-like setting.

5. Take it Offline – Good social media relationships don’t stop online; they take it to the next level. If you come across a potential power partner or some other gold mine – extend the invitation to connect offline – even if that really means Skype.

6. Forums – Utilize online forums to engage with your customers and consumers, and to drive traffic back to your site. This is not a place for spamming or “advertising” your business, but if you are seen as a resource you better believe people will want to know more about you and your company.

7. Follow other bloggers – Top bloggers, who have created a loyal following, offer a wealth of opportunity to reach a new network. From being a guest blogger, to getting your product reviewed, utilize blogs to bring more business to your bottom line.

8.  Ask Great Questions – Social media gives you a chance to get to know your clients and customers first hand. Don’t be afraid to ask them what they want, and find out their likes and dislikes as well. It could both save you money and make you more of it at the same time.

9.Blogging – People love information, most web surfers are seeking answers – use your blog to give people what they want. Answer the most common questions and drive traffic to your blog .

10. Integration – Make your life easier by using integration tools and applications to simplify your online and social media marketing efforts.

Great list here! Each of the platforms affords a different means of connecting with and building a rich community. LinkedIn is by far one of the most underused as it is not the shiny sparkly platform however it continues to prove its value to the community that take the time to be there. We have seen a lot of research lately from Jay Baer and quite a few others about Facebook and how we are not always taking advantage of what the users there expect and want from a brand. It is a platform that can be useful when you understand first your offering and how the community will accept it. Many are looking for that special offer or some sort of deal that can be exclusive or but brand have to be careful or maybe better said aware of the fact that the consumer there is looking for the deal and not necessarily an allegiance to the brand.

Blogging, I can never say enough about it. We know that Google and Bing are paying attention to the social signals. If you are promoting your blog, people are clicking the link to get to the link. It is a link and it has yet to be seen if that link is being treated/weighed as a link in the Google algorithms.

Happy to have you back blogging. =-)

Thanks Suzanne for the great insight. As you put it, there’s a lot of emphasis on the numbers game and allegiance to brands, rather than understanding and delivering what the consumer wants. Brands should consider themselves warned. True there’s a lot of potential in LinkedIn and people/brands need to put more effort in leveraging the unlimited potential there.

Couldn’t agree with you more on blogging. It’s not only an opportunity to perform better on SERP’s but also interact with your consumers.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I’m happy to be back!
